KMART - DINOSAUR return / exchange policy stinks!!!

KMART - archaic return/exchange store policy, poor customer service, employees hate their jobs, sell inferior quality goods. I'll NEVER EVER shop there again. They treat the customer like we are doing them a FAVOR to buy their low grade, *** made in China. Bought wrong sizes, went back to exchange, no receipt, tags on all items. Cashier & Assistant Manager said: "Against Company policy to accept any returns/exchanges without a receipt" . Other major stores give store credit. I've told everyone: "DON'T shop at KMart". No wonder they are going out of business nationwide: dinosaurs should become EXTINCT!

your complaint is invalid. read the return policy

A complaint about a store not allowing a return due to no receipt is not a valid complaint.

What a joke

Went to shop at my local Kmart. There was a pair of shoes, on Kmarts ad i wanted to purchase. Had A hard time finding the shoes. Asked employee where the shoe was, that I wanted. The employee told me, that not all Kmarts carry the same merchendise. I asked why, put the shoes on sale in their ad, that it was false advertising. The employee informed me, that the ad is printed for all kmart stores, and not individual stores. The employee said, that I can place an order and have the item shipped to my home for free. In order to get free shipping. I had to place my order at their store. What a waste of time, and what a rip off. No wonder Kmart is going under.

If you actually read the ad it says that not all stores carry the same items so your false advertising complaint is bogus. If every store carried every item then every store would be as big as a small town and you would be complaining that the store is to big.

Guest

Yet, there will be so many people who will miss Kmart when it is gone. My local Walmart is even worse in customer service and I just can't stand Target.

I actually was able to help 2 people get things shipped to their homes this week. They were both very happy.

Andrea Ahw

The ads have in legible ENGLISH language that SOME MERCHANDISE NOT AVAILABLE IN ALL STORES. Kmart should post a complaint about customers who fail to READ.

John N Mzy

It is cheaper for them to advertize on a regional or national basis and just not carry items at some of their stores, rather than print out ads on a local basis. I see ads for Golden Corral on my cable stations, tho there are none withing 200 miles of me.

Guest

The ads for all stores are that way. If you read the ad carefully I bet you will find words something to the effect that not all merchandise is found in all stores.

Therefore it isn't false advertising. You just didn't bother to read the fine print, therefore it was your mistake.

Two hour "pick-up" is 36 hours and counting

I ordered a 40" hdtv yesterday and when they charged the PayPal account, they said "two hours" I could pick it up at my local store. Two days and counting.......Been "hung-up" twice with the "off-shore" custormer service..... I knew better when dealing with "Sears".......now KMart.....do not buy from these corporations. There are much more "honest" dealers in the "electronics" market than this company. Check out "all" the "others" before you give these "scam-artist's" your money. Sear's use to be a great Company, as well as Kmart.....no longer. They took my money....no product.....that's "theft" buy most law's in the USA....

I too was in line at the Florence, AL store waiting for a voucher for the 50 inch TV, only to be told they were gone because one of the customers took 6 vouchers. I was the 10th person in line.

The associate told me he had 12 vouchers to give away but I was not able to get one. Greedy people suck!!The vouchers should have been handed out as the customer arrived in line.

Unless those games were returns it sounds like Kmart has an internal theft problem.

Were the game packages sealed in anyway?

Unconscionable customer service at West Orange Kmart

I visted the Kmart in West Orange, NJ yesterday, July 22, 2012 at around 2:00 p.m and the result was perhaps the worst, most unconscionable, most ridiculous shopping experience of my life. The store is two floors and I went downstairs looking for four items: a garden hose, a funnel, plumber's tape and compressed air. I proceeded to complete three laps around the entire floor and located 0 items. There was not one employee to be found to assist me. I then made my way all the way back to the electronics counter and asked a gentleman there for help. Garden hoses are upstairs. OK, fair enough. "What's a funnel?" he asks me. I then had to explain to him what a funnel is, but he still didn't get it. He called someone for assistance and I heard the voice on the other end of the phone repeat the same question: "what's a funnel?" At this point, I already think I'm in the twilight zone. He then directs me to a specific aisle where I'm to be met by a manager for help. I go there, no manager. I wait. Nobody. So I push a service button on a nearby kiosk and a manager shows up. He helps me find a funnel (at least he knew what it was!). I then ask him about plumber's tape, but he's already walking away, back to his break room, perhaps. I couldn't find plumber's tape, I explain to him. "Oh, then we must not have it." So much for that. Finally, I go to check out with 3 of the 4 items I needed. I stand in line at check out counter #7, behind one customer with some clothing. This process should take 2, 3 minutes, tops. The clerk fumbled around with tags and punching codes into the machine for at least 10 minutes. Then, she gets to one item of clothing in particular. "Oh, this one's not on sale." The customer argues, "sure it is, it has a 'for sale' tag on it." A disagreement ensues, and the clerk needs to call her manager. She shuts down the entire aisle. A manager walks by. The clerk says "hey, can you help with..." the manager cuts her off. "Nope, sorry, I'm on my break." At this point I think I'm on candid camera, but it gets worse! I've had enough, so I step into the aisle next to me, aisle #9 where an overweight African American woman is working the check out line. At least she knew how to ring people up. Finally, it's my turn. I'm standing on line for at least 30 minutes at this point. I place my items on the conveyor belt and step forward. She stares at me with her eyebrows raised. "What?" I ask. "Can you move your items down the conveyor belt?" she asks me. I say "why don't you just move the conveyor belt. That's what it's for." She says "oh, it's broken." So I slide my items down the conveyor belt toward her and she looks at me with disgust. "Do I need to call my manager?" she asks. Apparently she didn't like the force with which I slid my items down the conveyor belt. At this point I lose my mind. How much can a person take in one shopping experience? The same manager who told everyone else she was on break before comes walking over. She's apparently not on break anymore and she has a minute to help. She brings me over to the customer service desk, telling me she's going to ring me up personally. I proceed to stand in line AGAIN, waiting for her to get around to it. She can tell I'm angry, so she asks "should I call the manager?" "Yes!" I tell her. The manager comes upstairs 5, 10 minutes later and it's the same guy who rushed me through the process of finding my items downstairs, without a care in the world as to whether HIS store carried plumber's tape. I will never, EVER go to Kmart again, I don't care if I'm dying of thirst and they're the only ones with water. I know Kmart has financial difficulties and it's getting killed by the Walmarts and Costcos of the world. Now I know why. Good riddance.

Wow - worst experience ever!!!! KMART

Tried to use a merchandise credit online. The web site say you will see credit after you check out - I didn't so I called to confirm it went thru. I was told it did. When I got my credit card bill for the full after I called - was basically told too bad. Then I was called a lair by the solutions manager - who then BOLD faced lied saying that I couldn't use it online. When I called backed to say that the card actually said it could be used online, I was told that well yes, I could but since it had already shipped there was nothing that could done. And really, I should have seen it when I check out!!!! Are you kidding me sign me something I never thought I would be - a new Walmart shopper. hey - Eddie lambert, hope the land is worth something still because your running the company into the ground.

Tablet Available/not available

I purchase the Mach Speed Trio Eclipse MID 4.3 Tablet online then they cancelled the order because it is not available. Contacted them to let them know that I purchased it while it was available and that the actual web site indicates even right now that the item is available but it wont let you complete the order. I contacted customer service again and they say its because the item is out of stock. So at this time the item online show available while at store while it is really not. Making customers visit the store or shop online for items that really not available.

There are a few different ways a product can be "in-stock." The first is if it is sitting on the shelf waiting to be purchased. The second is if it is in someone's cart as they continue to shop.

A third way for an item to be "in-stock" is if it is damaged/defective and awaiting a return authorization. Just because an item is listed as "in-stock" does not necessarily mean it is available for purchase.

Kmart layaway horror story

Updated by user Jan 23, 2013

Update:

Well it took 3 weeks, but I was finally refunded the four layaway payments. Luckily I had made the payments through PayPal, so they did something to resolve the dispute that I had filed there. So I did get a refund for all the payments. From what one person told me, in the actual store layaway department, supposedly making layaway payments online goes through something ccall MyGofer. This system is not hooked up in the stores themselves, so the employee in the store couldn't see my payments or refund me the money. I don't know WHAT PayPal did, but it was only because of them, that I could get past the endless emails that I was receiving from a different person every time.

And thank you Liz for writing here, and for offering to help resolve this.

Original review Dec 22, 2012
I ordered a bunch of clothing items for my son for Christmas on 11/22, all of which were available in two of my local stores. My main reason for putting them on layaway was SO I COULD GET THEM now and put money down and they would be reserved for me. WRONG!!! Their layaway does NOT mean in stock and certainly does not mean RESERVED!!! Here's what happened within one hour this morning, three days before Christmas.... I go online to my layaway, which I have been making payments on since 11/22. I try to do Schedule to Pick up in store. It wont take either of my two local store numbers on login. I check my order; nowhere does it show my preferred store number. I check if I make the final payment if I could then select pick up in store. Nope. I call customer service. She informs me that now most of these items are no longer in stock in the stores. Which should be a non issue; I had mine reserved and set aside. Wrong. On hold 10 minutes and get disconnected. I now fleck all these items and yes, most are no longer available in stores. So I decide I will just have them shipped to me and receive them in 16-19 days. I pay the balance due and get a confirmation email from smart and from paypal. I then get two more emails from smart... One saying my layaway order has been CANCELLED. One saying they have refunded me $15.00!!!!!! I call customer service again. Give her all my info again, the situation again, she tells me the same info again, I saidI have to talk to a supervisor. I'm put on hold again, disconnected again. Now all my patience is gone I call them again. He wouldn't put me to a supervisor until I went thru the whole story again. He agreed at least to not put me on hold. He said smart must have had a problem processing it and cancelled it. But now I am out of luck the items are not available. He told me if a person paid off their balance before me, they would get the last item, not me. So I told him then layaway means basically NOTHING. They take my payments and don't reserve the items for me!!!

I'm not sure why anyone would mark this as ***. They wouldn't think so if it had happened to them.

It's been seven days, and I'm still trying to get the refund. Probably the only hope I have left is through PayPal's dispute process.

If you don't mind paying on items for a month, only to find out when you pay the layaway off that the items are no longer available, and it's going to be h@***l to get your money back, then be my guest, and use their layaway! I don't know why it says Kentucky, this actually happened to me in MN.

Prices Differ online and in cart

Purchased a leaf blower for my Dad online. Price differed once in cart. Did a chat session, which I saved in a word file. Chat rep promised gift card to make up difference in online and cart prices. Chat rep wouldn't identify location (said Illinois, but I don't believe that). Chat rep never followed up either with notes on account regarding issue. Have called KMart several times to discuss. Lots of wasted time. Received gift card, however, from my phone calls which should not have been required. Supervisor supposed to call back two days ago...no calls back yet.

The email tells the story in which I agree. I recognize very few people in Kmart anymore.

Other than ring a register they can't do squat and they don't know squat. They are rude. The employees look miserable. They have the same problems any store you go to at this point.

I've searched sale items at different stores in our area and they never have them. They don't even have a spot or sign for them.

K-Mart switching prices BEFORE 3 day sale ends

My Wife and I just returned from Kmart Passaic NJ . We were searching for the J S Ridgedale 7.5 ft cashmere pine christmas tree which was on sale for $149.99 for 3 days ,Thursday, Friday,Saturday. I had called the store previously to ask if they had any left. They told me "Yes, 1 left". They were nice enough to hold the one for me , for I told them I was on my way to pick it up. This was about 8:35 pm. We arrived at the store 9:30 , went to the area to pick it up and continued to shop. We get on the ONLY line open in the store ,after waiting, God knows how long, the cashier proceeds to check us out. Came time to ring up the tree . It scans $224.99. I told the cashier that the tree is STILL ON SALE for $149.99 and NOT the price that came up. I told her "It's STILL Saturday, and that that price is still good!" The "supervisor" comes over asks what the problem is and I tell her , she gets on the phone to confirm the price. She comes back with $224.99. That the price was only good till 10:00 pm. I told her "You're still wrong , It's STILL Saturday, not 10:00 but 11pm the price is good for !" She then decides to question me as to where I saw this price , and Who told us it was $149.99. I told her we called a little while ago to ask about the tree, also told her IT IS IN THE PAPER. She then says " OK Lets go see this paper and that I have to understand that sales have various time limits in the stores. OK....'' "Prices are only good for when it says it's good" I'm like, "go get the paper , let's see" . I wait by the door where she went and hear her mumbling something to some one inside. She then comes storming out of the room saying " OK I'm gonna give ya' the 150.00 even though the time has expired". I then told her "Thank You". She overrode the register and left. As the cashier was packing my things I could hear her complaining that "Who do they think they are, the tree is NOT on sale BUT FOR THEM IT IS!!!!" I decided to leave it alone and leave. I looked at the clock in the car and it was 10:54pm . They close @ 11:00 pm. We got home and we checked the Kmart paper. There it was in black & white: 3-day sale prices are effective 6 am Thursday, Nov 22 THRU 11PM SATURDAY NOV.24. While we were shopping we could see employees changing signs on items (trees included) BEFORE the end of the sale day was over. That means unsuspecting customers would have paid higher prices other than the ones clearly marked in the paper before the 11pm closing. Also with the computers rigged with the new prices. Shame on You Kmart for misleading your customers and changing the prices as they shop even if it is the last hour of the sale. Also for not having a Manager on site, only a Supervisor running the show.

I work at a Kmart and I can tell you that yes, we do pull the sale tags a few hours before the even ends but the product will continue to ring up until the sale is over. The system doesn't magically change because a sign was pulled down.

Yes, the employee should have been more polite, but you got the sale price anyways.

You are shopping Kmart, not some expensive fancy store. What did you expect?

Guest

I do not work for KMART, however, my store Menards does the same thing. We pull the sale prices 2-3 hours before the sale ends.

Several reasons we do it this way; not paying employees to stay late to do it, making sure we do not miss any, and most importantly having them down before we open the next day. If it's on sale it will still ring up on sale. I find it very hard to believe their system had it wrong. Your ignorance is why the staff got so annoyed with you.

They just had a long day and you came in making silly demands. Also, I don't know why you made this complaint since they gave you the sale price anyways. Even better was they held it for you! So let's some this up; YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE ARROGANT SHOPPERS WHO CRYS AND MOANS UNTIL THEY GET WHAT THEY WANT AND WHEN THEY GET IT STILL ARE NOT HAPPY.

Your type make working retail a living ***.You should be saying THANK YOU! Not crying on here.

This isn't a site to run interfearance when somebody has a problem, it is just a place for people to vent. Go ahead and fight for your rights, it's your word against theirs.

Report this theft to the police------I bet they will get to look at the camera footage. However, don't wait too long because I have heard that stores only keep the footage a short amount of time.

False Advertisment - Salem NH

I received a circular for a Wednesday Doorbuster sale - stores on at 6AM. I went there early to purchase the adversed Android tablet that was on the cover. Upon arriving at the store the manager informed us the store wasn't opening until 8. He indicated that because the stores in MA are not able to open on Thanksgiving, that this store would not be putting out the circular items advertised for Wednesday until Thursday. Not even putting them out! So - the store was advertised it would open early and it did not, and that there were all these sales on Wednesday, which there were not. To boot, the customer service here is horrendous. I did waste a couple of hours with the hope that they would honor them after all, but they did not - no product. What a rip off. There were a lot of angry people coming in after me too. This is complete false advertising and this store should be held accountable.

Okay.. let's take this apart piece by piece.

First, Massachusetts has blue laws, New Hampshire doesn't. Meaning that Massachusetts an not open until a certain time due to such laws (which is why the ad says the exclusions in the fine print). It is not that they don't want to open, the state will not let them. This also takes into account for New Hampshire being open due to their lack of blue laws.

Second, the shipment facility only sends a certain amount of items to every store due to their inventory, this is where ordering things online comes into place. Third, companies pay to have their items on sale, other do not.

Most of the time substitutions are not allowed. Fourth, fine print is not a poor excuse, it is you being mad because you were proven wrong.

Guest

The Kmart around here never has sales items. If you are lucky they might start an advertisement with one or two items.

They are always out of stock of the cheaper items. I think they do that on purpose and hope you will buy something more expensive.

Guest

That's funny because my family and self went to the store in Hooksett, NH and there were no problems. Things advertised in the paper, I was able to buy and place on layway.

Even though the door buster sale wasn't suppose to start until 8pm the manager said the *** with it and everything that was listed for the 8pm sale was gone before 1pm.

Guest

Read the ads more carefully and you will see most of them say not available in all stores or something to that effect.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-572365

Fine print is nothing but a poor EXCUSEr. To top it off most sales people on the floor just say they are out of it.

Does anybody care at Kmart anymore?

This is a year round problem at the store around here. They should either substitue or advertise for the neighborhood.

Jacqueline Artificial Christmas tree at K-Mart

Today's Sunday ad 11/25/12 advertised a Jacqueline Smith artifical Sherwood Pine Christmas tree for $69.99 at K-mart. I went online to pay and pick up, so one would be saved for me.

There were none available at any stores within 100 miles of me. My boyfriend who lives in a close state started calling K-marts in his area. He learned the only had a few in stock to begin with and they went right away. They would not give a rain-check at any of the 8 stores he called.

This was definitely incorrect advertising! I sure won't shop K-mart ever again!

I used to wrk at k-mart and I can tell you they never have what they advertise on sale. One xmas legos were on sale but they put out an empty shelf with a sign on it legos 4.99.My mother in law went there right when the store open and no legos she asked the manger about it and he lied and told her that shelf was full we sold out when nothing was ever on the shelf at all. k-mart sucks please do not shop there.as for rude employees we just did not care because we were treated like *** and not paid for all our hours which is why many employes have sued and won at the store i worked at.

Guest

There is almost always fine print in an advertisement saying something to the effect of "while supplies last." With seasonal merchandise such as Christmas trees, the Kmart distribution center receives a fixed amount from the manufacturer, which are then shipped to the stores. When the distribution center runs out, the stores will not receive any more.

This is why no rain checks are given. There is no guarantee that the store will get any more in, and it alleviates a barrage of angry phone calls from customers wondering if their raincheck merchandise has come in.
