Kmart - Employee Experience Review from Anaheim, California

I currently work for kmart in west Anaheim/garden grove ca. I can not believe the way a few of my bosses talk down to women! I feel so degraded and unintelligent when being talked to by my boss Eddie. He is constantly telling my store manger that the service desk girls (me) that we do not know what we are doing or how to run the front end. Hate to tell you this, but I know what I am doing! Then there was a promotion and only 2 people were up for (*** in itself) A service desk supervisor and a guy that had been there maybe 6 months. Needless to say the guy got the promotion. By the way, did I mention he is maybe 18-19?? Now, he only got this promotion because Eddie pushed it. Now this guy is acting he same way as Eddie! They call us out on our numbers in front of customers, they talk down to us like they are better than anyone in that store, and the dirty looks constantly just throws me over the edge! Going to corporate with this! And quitting asap!

As a current and soon to be former worker at West Anaheim (store closing March 2016) I have to say that yes Kmart has lots of problems and in a few years or less it won't matter because the company will be gone.

Corporate doesn't seem to be able to get with the times and improve the stores, training and recruit good workers.

What do you expect to get for minimum wage? How do you expect to retain your full-time leads when you don't even give them a raise or any incentives. How can you run a store when you cut hours back to the bare minimum? Most of these new kids that get hired in don't want to work and expect everything to be handed to them.

I've tried to guide some of these kids and tell them that while the pay sucks your the one who accepted this job so you need to give it 100%.

I've met a lot of good people (customers and co-workers) over the years at the six stores I've worked at and that is what I will truly miss because this will be my last retail gig.

For the record Gus is a huge improvement over Peter who did nothing but sit in his office and talk down to the employees and yell at you for not selling enough smart plans. Gus is on the sales floor working with you side by side, taking the time to explain how things work, how to do things better and taking care of the customers.

Eddie while he had his flaws (we all do) and wasn't a team player I have to admit that he trained his people well and he worked his butt off.

Finally to Michelle our District Manager. You really need to get on meds because you have to be bipolar. You also really need obtain some people skills because you do not have to instill fear and degrade people to get them to do a good job for you.

The way you yell and talk down to people on the sales floor is deplorable. Just remember Michelle one day it will come full circle back to you and you will be the one getting the pink slip and being escorted out of the store.

Good-luck Kmart I truly do hope someone up in Corporate wakes up sees the light but I wont hold my breath.

As a former worker at the West Anaheim Kmart, working retail was good experience and a stepping stone to my current job. The customers were great and coworkers as well (except for the gossiping).

However, I must say that management preach a false culture; they don't stand by what they preach, for they rather try to use culture values to exploit the workers. Also, management is never in sync, for the assistant managers do not respect Gus. Gus tells them to do business a certain way but instead they do it their way, which confuses and disrupts work performance. They contradict themselves.

They lack LEADERSHIP, COHESION, and COMMUNICATION which explains their lack of constructive feedback. Needless to say, they expect too much for mediocre pay. For example, one worker is assigned three different departments in a shift and is expected to have the depts. spotless clean.

When West Kmart obtains solid workers they do not appreciate nor value great performance. It's just a mess at that Kmart store. I sympathize the current workers but, if they want a better job, get an education!

Do not waste your time there! It's not worth working at a mediocre retail store with an incompetent management.

Heads up: Gus needs to own his role and Eddie needs to quit envying the female workers.

Must admit that some of the service desk people there are lazy and don't deserve to be there. I'm also glad that the other person didn't get that promotion.

Maybe the service desk supervisor had customer complaints against her? Or the hours wouldn't work for her so she turned it down.

Maybe the young fellow had a degree that gave him a heads up. Maybe his parents owned a business so he had years of retail experience. Maybe there is an investigation going on with the female. Maybe she had a conflict of interest.

There are way to many maybe's for this to automatically be called a sexual discrimination case and as a third party nosy rosy, you will probably never know the whole story. Unless, of course, you are the supervisor that was passed up for the job?

If your work ethics are as terrible as your spelling and grammar he has every right to tell you that you are not doing your job properly. Stop playing the he is a big man and I am a poor defenseless woman ***, it makes you look like a two year old throwing a temper tantrum.

If you knew what you were doing he would not be having to tell you that you are doing wrong. I think you are just jealous that someone younger than you is your boss. Why else would you mention his age? Stop playing the sex discrimination ***.

It is obvious from your spelling and grammar that you are uneducated and that is why you did not get the job, it had nothing to do with your gender.

You sound like a two year old by claiming this was sex discrimination. You may not be saying it out loud but that is what you are implying.

You do not understand, once I got angry with him. i was so angry with him that i falsely claimed he sexually harassed me.

I told some people I trusted that it never happened. They told the people doing the investigation and I was written up for making the false claim. They said that I am lucky he is not pressing charges. He makes me so angry that I have to make up lies to get him fired.

That is how he annoys me. I am educated, I know very well what I am doing. I am doing a good job.

He treats me like I am uneducated and he is not that easy to work with. Like I said if you met him you would understand.

Lady manager in Waynesboro VA on 7/4 very rude. No respect for customers at all!!! Me and my husband will not go back because of her. No wonder they only have 2 stars. We have spent a lot of money there......no more!!! They treated us much better at walmart!!! Terrible attitudes!!!!

Dear Jillian Meyers-Brittain (Fair Trading assistant regional manager)

Thank you for the reply that appears to be completed just one day after my message of 29th January 2015.

It would appear that both Fair Trading and Kmart have no intention of exercising their duty of care, nor have either organisations attempted to answer my concerns/questions in relation to this matter.

There should be no argument that Kmart's warning label in relation to the chair in question was inadequate (see attached NUMBER1)

I specifically bought this chair for out door use, however under the safety standard that Kmart said applied this was never intended to be used outdoors.

EN 12520:

"It does not apply to ranked seating, seating for non-domestic use, office work chairs, office visitors chairs, chairs for educational institutions, outdoor seating..."

The attached warning label (NUMBER 1) offers no such warning.

Why not?

Fair Trading informed me that Kmart compliance officer Ms Assimakopoulos stated the following in relation to my complaint: "Ms Assimakopoulos advised these particular folding chairs can be used indoors and outdoors however if the chair begins to rust due to the conditions in which it was stored, Kmart are unable to guarantee that the condition of the chair would be fit for purpose over time."

This explanation does not comply with the Standard EN12520 which clearly states the chairs are not to be used outdoors.

In your letter of 30 January you wrote:

"Having reviewed all information and documents provided, I can confirm that all appropriate actions have been conducted in accordance with Fair Trading’s complaint handling policies and procedures."

Jillian, In relation to the above what are the appropriate actions or tests that were applied to the compliance and public safety concerns to my complaint?

Also, Fair Trading has chosen not to address my public/customer safety concerns in relation to this matter nor has Fair Trading attempted to answer the following questions posed by me on 29th January:

1 - Did or did not Kmart claim the chair was sold under international standard BS EN 12520?

2 - Does not international standard BS EN 12520 state clearly that it does not apply to outdoor seating?

3 - Should Kmart's waring label have warned customers these chairs are not to be used or stored outdoors?

3 - If the above is true then why did you accept Ms Assimakopoulos's claim that the chair can be used outdoors, when in fact international standard BS EN 12520 does not apply to outdoor seating.

4 - If Ms Assimakopoulos's claim is true in respect that the chair can be used outdoors then what safety standard is applicable - as BS EN 12520 does not apply to outdoor seating?

5 - Ms Assimakopoulos claims that if rust appears due to the conditions it is stored then under what storage conditional would make such a chair rust?

6 - These were the questions that Ms Assimakopoulos should have been asked - why wasn't she?

7 - Are you now willing to ask Ms Assimakopoulos the above questions?

As I feel these are valid questions one might ask why have you not attempted to have Kmart address them?

Jillian would you kindly forward this email to your Regional Manager and request a reply to my concerns.

Please note that to the best of my knowledge Kmart have yet to issue a warning or recall in relation to their negligence regarding the warning label; meaning customers are still at risk of unnecessary injury, something that you are now fully aware of.

My final question to you is:

Why is it you refuse to honour your duty of care in relation to the safety of Kmart customers?

Rude people

All managers are rude, they will not give a dam about you, only as song as you do what they want. Kmart is a horrible job i had ever had. And for it being my first job, is sucks to go by this experience. They are very nosy and will try to be all up into your personal life. Its so much anger, its just a horrible store, i hope all the mangers there get fire because they do not treat there employees right!!! They will not called you up and speak to you, instead they will talk to you in front of people and that is not professional at all.

When they have to reprimand a person, it is done on the job. It sounds like you weren't mature enough to be working and maybe you brought your personal life with you to work and that made them think you wanted to talk about personal things.

Back in 2009 the st louis county (south county) kmart Lost Prevention Employee Mike I think was the name I got, attacked a pregnant woman in the parking lot and told her if she gave him any problems he would punch her in her stomach and he didn't give a f if she was pregnant. I waited for the woman to come back out and taled to the police that I called turns out she was putting her cell phone in her purse not stealing I got the woman info to in courage her to sue Kmart and she refused because she said she was so scared of that man she felt like she had been raped emotionally obviously he did not Rape her but the physiological trama Was The Closest Thing She Could Relate It to. After much digging online and talking employees this guy thought he had the right to brat on alleged offenders. I hope she ended up suing them even the cop was sickened by the KMART employees behavior. Myself and many others refuse to shop there I moved 2 years ago I hope he's locked up and that stores closed. What a sick place to shop. If you put your keys or phone away you get attacked by this guy with obvious mental issues....

Boy you must not have much a life if you wait six years to bring this up. Instead of worrying about things that don't concern you.

The whole wording, spelling, punctuation, etc. of your complaint just doesn't make any sense. Furthermore, I would be willing to bet all that you say didn't occur, because most stores have security cameras for the parking lot too.

There must have been something in her possession that set the buzzer off. All in all, when you stuck your nose where it didn't belong, you could have got yourself in trouble.

The point is I was pumched in the stomach while pregnant and he did not care and wehn i talked to the police they could not help. i moved from this place two years ago and he still works there and he almost killed my child who is six now and i was not stealing i was putting my phone in the puse and accidently put lipstick an i shadow in my purse.

I have been a coupon savvy person for the past 25+ years. I have been a rewards member since the program started. We have had our issues with Kmarts in Houghton Lake, Michigan in the past but Larry the store manager has gone out of his way to make it right so we kept going back. I agree the lines are always only one or 2 lanes max. are open and you alway have to wait ( 10 or more minute wait time),and there are always computer problems (sometimes putting you to over 45 minutes for a $50 shopping order), and the worse is that have never been fully fixed over time.But I understand we are a small town and budgets have to stretch so I kept going back. My biggest complaint that pushed me over the edge is when I was told that I was penalized for using coupons!!!I had a coupon, for spend $50 and receive 10,000 member points. I bought no bogo items. I used the 5 coupons doubled( this weeks bonus advertised) and can say that I would understand the extra on the 5 coupons could be excluded from the totals but I still met the totals . It spit me out the gas coupon and when I asked why that was not excluded then I was rudely told they spit out randomly. I was told you had to spend $50 and you get a gas coupon and that is what our cashiers told us. The bomb dropped on me by the manager Melissa: I was told each coupon I use is counted against my total, when I asked how legally this is possible I was told those are the rules and that even the purina check for $6 i used and bottle returns are penalized. I flipped I called the rewards number the minute I left the store and the rudeness continued, she said that was their right to change any rules rademely and the store was right . I closed 5 of my family's rewards cards in one phone call and will tell my coupon group about this over 50 others to close theirs and write their opinions. This is the final straw Kmarts your rewards program has been a constant battle to use and this was the final straw I think it is a gimmick to draw you in only to overpay and be treated rudely. This week alone I spent in this store over $500.00 and was ripped off of $50 that never appear or when approach now the coupons are the issue. . I will now be on a mission to never use Kmart and for warn anyone else who is getting ripped off by them. My daughter took back an item that she used a coupon (the original transaction was over 30 days ago) for and was told the amount of the coupon was deducted from her return price.How is this legal. They collected $5 coupon from the manufacture then when took the item back deducted $5 from my return. This is a first and expensive lesson to learn!!!!!

I live in US and my mom is 80 years old and has her prescriptions at Kmart Pharmacy in Puerto Rico, where she lives by herself. Every time she needs a refill, she takes a cab to go to their location. The other day she told me that the pharmacist told her about the Home Delivery service. Sadly, every time I try to register for this service, their website always brings up an error I have called for support the pharmacy where her prescription is located and they have no clue. The pharmacist at that location gave me another phone number to call for assistance... they had no clue... at this other number they gave me a number to call, 1-86*-562-**** and I spoke to Linda who said was going to find out what was going on and call me back, never received a call back. I called Linda again, and she said she was going to put a request to the IT Department, that it was going to take 24 hours to contact me back. 4 days went by without an answer, I called back, and this time the person that took the call took my information, said he was going to contact his boss and that they will call me back,it has been a month and nobody has called. I am really disappointed with the service that Kmart Pharmacy is giving to their customers, specially for people who cannot make it to the drugstore on their own. I write to you hopping that you could direct this email to someone that can make this possible.

I went to k-mart at countryside yesterday and I will never return. They had several items I wanted in the latest ad and I spent about an hour and a half filling my cart with nearly everything on my list. go to check out and there's about a dozen people standing up at the one open lane. No problem I decide they will soon notice the long line an open another. After 30 minutes as I get close enough to see five employees standing around I get quite angry and I say quite loudly, " is there no other checkers available in tis entire store"? All of the employees heard my comment and turned to look at me as if I had four heads and then continued to chat amongst each other. So I shoved my cart full of items toward the service desk and stormed out. I would love to know where the *** the manager was. RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. I will never go there again.

Here is the difference between the 12 people before you and yourself. The 12 other`s were adults while you are a three year old child throwing a temper tantrum and yelling at the employees for something they cannot control.

They are not the one making the schedules so you have no right yelling at them. Next time have an adult supervise you while you shop.

if you wanted to know where the manager was, instead of getting pi$$y and pushing your cart at the service desk, why not approach it and ask for the manager and then demand they check you out there?

many retailers, and i know this because i work for a big box retailer, can actually cash people out at the service desk as well.

so in closing, get off your little soap box, stop crying for mommy, and take some responsibility for the fact that you overreacted like a child and stormed out.

Oh give the person a break, it is quite obvious from their behavior that they are in fact three years old. The mistaking not giving in to her temper tantrum as rudeness, shoving the cart, storming out, and yelling at them shows she is a three year old child. Blame the parents for allowing such a young child to shop alone when she is clearly too young and immature to do so.

The Kmart store in Grayson Kentucky has become my worst place to shop. It doesn't matter what day or time. They have 1 PR 2 registers. The lines are backed up so badly. Then customers get angry and leave their items and go. My.last 4 times I have gone my approximate wait was at least 20 minutes. I realize they are given so many man hours. But if you want sales. Then have more registers available. I have decided to drive 30 minutes out of my way and go to Walmart. Fix this issue and I will be glad to go back to your store

Refund Policy Review

Order#81608****. Worst! Incompetent customer service! First of all UPS lost my package and Kmart refused to give me my money back stating the UPS claim had to be closed first. Two weeks after the package should have been delivered, I still have not gotten by money back. Needless to say, they will be hearing from my attorney!

Well the last issue I had was the last double coupon event where my qs did not double and I hadn't done any other transactions so I requested a refund and was told when you pay with coupons you lose them they are forfeited along with their value I would only receive a refund for the amount I actually paid for umm I don't think so! She went on a rant saying oh you're just trying to make money off of coupons ect I called kmart corp while there and they told her she was incorrect so after she refunded me my refund + the value of my qs she's had a nasty attitude with me.(Knart issued me a $25 gc for what she did and said to me) Everytime I go in there and she's at customer service and she sees me coming up there she doesn't acknowledge me she walks away and radios for a manager to come so I told the store supervisor and he said he would speak to her about it and so I go in the store today and as I'm leaving I'm stopped by 2 officers asking to speak with me telling me I'm being issued a trespassing warning saying the store said there was some issues and a conflict I was having yesterday with some coupons and that I stole something WHAT! Really first off I had no issues with anyone I had no argument or any altercation with anyone not even that woman I'm speaking about the issue I had I address another manager in the store about it I walk to and from kmart so if I stole something why didn't they stop me before I left the store or while I was walking in the parking there was a man there maybe LP saying they have me on video taking toilet paper and leaving the store HOLY ***!!!! TOILET PAPER!!! Which is interesting because I bought toilet paper yesterday and picked up an item at the customer service desk I asked them to hold for me which was paid for and the receipt was taped to it so I told him YOURE A LIER I WANT TO SEE THIS TAPE! I have my receipts and you can check my transaction history with my phone number in your system I said this is what you all came up with yesterday after I complained about that woman! This is disgusting and insulting I want to see your video! and the officer was like there's no need for that just not to come back to the store or they can have me arrested for trespassing!! Have mommy and daddy read the terms and conditions of the coupons to you that way you won't have issues if you misread them and are in the wrong. Your mommy or daddy can also read the terms on the coupons or store policy that states if you use say a $2 off coupon you don't get the extra $2 back.

You just stated several arguments you had with the manager and employees, then you say you never argued with anyone. You need to shop with a parent because apparently you are not mature to shop of your own. I take it from your behavior you are six years old? You are an adult shopper who behaves like a six year old when she does not get her way, they don't have to deal with you.

It seems like you are the liar, (spelled liar not lier, spelled you're not you're. For a grown woman to act like a child when she does not get what she wants is what is INCREDIBLE and they have every right to ban you from the store until you can either act your age, or if you really are six years old, have a parent keep a check on your behavior.

Kmart - Blinder Review from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

We purchase blinders from Walmart and they were missing the two ends. It appeared the blinders we bought were returned for unknown reasons and the last buyer kept the two ends from the blinder. We attempted to return it for an even exchange or at least get the two ends from another box, however, they did not have the exact blinder and they chose not to open a box to give us the part we need it. I felt it was their responsibility to check any returned items for missing parts which they failed to do so they should have open a box and gave us the part we needed. This is the Walmart in Lake Worth on North Lake.

They don't have to do a thing since you bought the blinders from Walmart and are trying to return them to Kmart. The fact that you are doing this makes me wonder if you are scamming and stole the "missing" parts.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Furthermore, if they didn't have the exact blinds they couldn't open another box and give the end pieces, because they wouldn't work.

For all you know somebody could have opened the boxes, and taken the end pieces out of the boxes that you purchased.

Another thing, KMart didn't know that you didn't remove the end pieces from the boxes. After all there are all kinds of people in the world.

To answer the question its blinds for windows. Why in heavens names do I need extra ends for the blinds. Just open a box and give it to a customer (me) who shops there on a daily basis or should I say who used to shop there. I'm done wasting gas for their mistake.

They apologize for not checking the box.

I'm not trying to hear that. I just want a solution that benefits me and stops making waste gas

Grow up. Just because someone tells the complainer they are wrong does not mean they work for the company. Make up your mind scammer, did this happen at Walmart or Kmart? Let me play your childish game and assume that you are lying about this while thing.

You made all this up because you were fired or caught shoplifting and you want the company to look bad. This is as bad as your ASSuming that the person replying works for Kmart.

Hello i purchased an outdoor table and chair set at the end of the season last year. It was the jaclyn smith cora dining set. One of the chairs is rusting and pealing and it looks terrible. i was punished at the front door infront of my family because i wasn't able to tell him how much was the rug i purchased with my debit card while he was holding my receipt but like four guys walk out the store while flipping him the bird then he walks over to his little desk and was trying to tell other people to go as if i was under arrest after i spent over 300 in this *** store that i worked hard for i bet you this ill pay the toll to jersey before i give them USA security people one red dime i see them in a k mart I'm walking out
